PROJECT 1
PROBLEM TREE: High consumption of ultra-processed foods in the Colombian population
PROJECT 2
Excessive consumption of ultra-processed foods has become a health problem in Colombia. These products, loaded with added sugars, saturated fats and sodium, but low in essential nutrients, have pushed fresh and natural foods out of the diet of many Colombians. This trend, driven by factors such as globalization, urbanization and intense advertising by the food industry, has disturbing consequences. Frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
To reverse this situation, a multidisciplinary approach is required. It is essential to promote food education from childhood, teaching how to recognize ultra-processed foods and choose healthier options. Likewise, access to fresh and natural foods must be facilitated, encouraging local production and sustainable agriculture. A possible solution that the government has provided has been raised in Resolution 2492 of 2022: Through Resolution 810 of 2021, the technical regulation on the nutritional and front labeling requirements that packaged or packaged foods for human consumption must meet was established with the aim of promoting healthy eating and protecting consumers from possible diseases.
Solving the problem of high consumption of ultra-processed foods is a priority to improve the health and well-being of the Colombian population. By reducing the consumption of these products and promoting healthier eating, we can reduce the incidence of chronic diseases, improve the quality of life and reduce the costs associated with health care. In addition, adequate nutrition contributes to optimal cognitive development in children and adolescents.
